The Fast is over! Now What?

The Fast is Over! Now What? - written by Maxie Anderson

As you slowly return to your former eating habits, how did the fast make you feel? Did  you draw closer to God? Did you spend more time with God? Did the change in your eating  habits impact you spiritually? Consider these important takeaways from this experience:

 Prayer – We should now approach a place in our lives where we are ready to receive what Jesus says and what other Scriptures say about prayer. Scriptures say to seek God early in the morning (Mark 1:35; Psalm 5:3).

 Patience and Persistence – Our prayers may require patience; don’t give up after just one prayer. Daniel waited 21 days before he received a response to his prayer. (Daniel 10:12- 13). Our prayers may also require persistence. In Luke 18:1-3 and in 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 respectively, Jesus says to pray and not lose heart, and to pray without ceasing.

 Pounds – Your fasting experience may have resulted in weight loss in pounds and inches.  While weight loss was not the initial intention of the fast, it could certainly have been a benefit. Continue good eating habits as God talks about being good stewards of our body in the following scriptures: 1 Corinthians 3:16–17, and 1 Corinthians 6:19–20. These versus speak about the importance of taking care of our bodies. With our new bodies we should have more strength and energy to serve the Lord.
