Fasting and Prayer
4 Tips for Getting the Most from Your Fast!
These tips are for anyone doing a total fast or a Daniel fast and for any length of time.
1. Revisit the Purpose of the Fast Often
Reflect on Your Why: Remind yourself why you began the fast. Whether it was to seek God's direction, grow spiritually, or intercede for others, reconnect with that purpose. Meditate on Isaiah 58:6, which speaks to the heart of fasting: "No, this is the kind of fasting I want: Free those who are wrongly imprisoned, lighten the burden of those who work for you. Let the oppressed go free, and remove the chains that bind people."
2. Seek Fresh Strength in Prayer and Scripture
Pray for Renewal: Be honest with God about your struggles and prayer needs. Ask God for continued strength, clarity and faith.
Change Your Bible Reading Approach: This is a great time to crack open that one book of the Bible you have never read before. If you have a study bible or a study tool, keep it near you to help understand it. Examples Isaiah, Jeremiah, Revelation, Ezekiel, 1 & 2 Kings or a different one. 3. Try New Worship Music
Worship: Check out some new artists or even styles of worship music. The goal is to continually fill our daily lives with songs that keep God's praises on your lips and a posture of worship in our hearts.
4. Anticipate Breakthrough
Remember God’s Promises: Fasting is a time of spiritual battle and refinement. Trust that God will use your sacrifice for His glory, even if you don’t feel the results immediately. Galatians 6:9: "So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up."
